It allows users to capture news, blog posts, or any text-based content directly from their preferred app and access it later in a specially optimized format designed for enhanced readability.

The bookmarking functionality is streamlined through a dedicated extension, enabling users to save articles with a single click. Beyond simply storing links, Atode downloads the full content of each page and converts it into a minimalistic, distraction-free presentation. This format isolates the essential text and images, removing headers, advertisements, and clutter, thereby facilitating focused reading even offline, as all content is stored locally on the device.

The integrated reader interface offers customizable styles aimed at improving readability and reducing visual distractions. Users can select from various themes and reader modes (including day, sepia, grey, dusk, night, and black), set preferred font sizes and layouts (such as page view or continuous scroll), and adjust margins to suit personal preferences. During reading sessions, notes can be taken and highlights made. The search function enables quick navigation within saved content, while options to copy, define, translate, or look up selected text enhance the reading experience.

The library feature organizes saved articles efficiently with options to mark favorites, add tags, or categorize content into folders. Sorting features include arrangements by date, unread status, title, or recent access. Users can browse their collection by folder, tag, or website URL and filter results based on tags or estimated reading time. Export functionalities support sharing articles along with annotations in formats such as plain text, markdown, or JSON. Additionally, highlights can be synchronized with services like Readwise or stored locally for use in other applications.

All user data—including articles and annotations—is securely stored via Apple’s iCloud service without requiring external accounts. This synchronization ensures that content remains consistent across multiple devices; adding an article or updating annotations on one device automatically propagates to others. Continuous device compatibility necessitates signing in with the same Apple ID across platforms.

The application is available in a free basic version that includes all core features and offers an unrestricted reader mode but limits the number of bookmarks that can be saved each month. An upgrade to premium subscriptions—Atode Plus for increased bookmark limits and Atode Pro for unlimited bookmarks—is available through in-app purchases. These purchases are handled via Apple’s App Store under their terms and conditions.
